Curb Appeal

Nothing increases the value of your home like revising the look people see from the street.  Often with minimal expense, your home can look like a whole new house.

There are many ways to dress up your home's appearance and make your house look inviting.  It can seem simple, but to look the best your curb appeal remodel needs to be well designed and coordinated.   Here are a few of the ways Artisan Design and Remodeling turns up the pow factor.

Make Your Front Door Pop

Your home's front entry is the focal point of its curb appeal.  Make a statement by giving your front door a blast of color with paint or by installing a custom door. Clean off dirty spots around the knob, and use metal polish on the door fixtures. Make sure your entry reflects the home's interior, and is consistent with the style of the house.

Replace the Hardware

House numbers, the entry door lockset, a wall-mounted mailbox, and an overhead light fixture are all elements that can add style and interest to your home's exterior curb appeal.  Are you sure your home is conveying the aesthetic you?  Make sure all the  elements  function collectively as a set.  Subtle changes in finishes make a big difference.  Oiled-bronze finishes are great for traditional homes.  Brushed nickel works for contemporary ones.

Add a Gate

Few things add a look of elegance and style better than a gate.  Gates come in a  wide variety of styles and impact.  They also add safety and security along with intrigue.  You can really make a statement with a wooden, iron, painted or artistic gate.  Have fun while you up your home's value.

Replace Gutters and Downspouts

If your home has an older gutter system, suffers from peeling paint, rust spots, or other problems it can look neglected.  Replace old systems with newer, vinyl gutter systems that  require no painting.

Renew Paint, Siding, and Trim

An exterior facelift (new paint, siding, or trim details) can instantly transforms the look of your home.  After you have seen your house for many years, you may not even notice wear and tear.  Any obvious defects, such as cracked or rotting material, can downgrade the visual appeal.  Make a list of things to be fixed and you'll be surprised at the result.

Change the Walkway

Your walkway leads the eye from the street to the front door, so give it special attention.  Ditch the straight concrete path. Think curving stone or brick. Well-designed walkways make your home feel warm and inviting.  Colored concrete resurfacers have come a long way and offer lots of choices.  Edge your walkway with brick or stone borders for a beautiful, tailored look.

Stone Veneers Make a Statement

Stone can be applied to a lackluster cookie-cutter house and completely change the look.  In fact, masonry details such as fountains and columns are inexpensive ways to dress up the house. Keep the expensive materials as accents, and gain the benefit of looking like a million dollar makeover.

Of course, ratcheting  up your gardening makes a big difference as well.  We like low-maintenance native plants, but if you have a green thumb, apply it to your curb appeal.
